In a statement to the New York Post, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz evaluated the steps taken in foreign policy.
Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, Waltz said that NATO was “already behind” in responding to “Europe’s largest ground war since World War II” and that Europe should take responsibility for any future assistance to Ukraine.
Recalling Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 after most NATO members could not afford the then minimum 2 percent defense budget, Waltz called for defense budgets to be increased to at least 5 percent.
Waltz said that the US has a debt of 33 trillion dollars and “We can no longer subsidize Europe’s security. We must distinguish between our allies in Eastern Europe, such as Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.” He used these expressions.
